J.J. Daniel Hall, Building 1, is named for Jaquelin James 'J.J.' Daniel, a Jacksonville attorney, businessman and civic leader, in recognition of his leadership in the founding of UNF and his many contributions to higher education in Florida. The building opened in October 1972 when classes first started on campus. Daniel, a former newspaper publisher, served on the Florida Board of Regents and its predecessor, the Board of Control, for more than 15 years.
