Alumni Square is a courtyard area where students gather at tables to study or snack during the day. Mosaic artwork on columns and walls in this area were designed and installed by UNF students and faculty.
The Andrew A. Robinson Theater Building is adjacent to UNF’s Fine Arts Center and also hosts a variety of performance events. The building is one of a cluster of multi-purpose facilities named for UNF’s first dean of faculties, Andrew A. Robinson.
J.J. Daniel Hall, Building 1, is named for Jaquelin James 'J.J.' Daniel, a Jacksonville attorney, businessman and civic leader, in recognition of his leadership in the founding of UNF and his many contributions to higher education in Florida. The building opened in October 1972 when classes first started on campus. Daniel, a former newspaper publisher, served on the Florida Board of Regents and its predecessor, the Board of Control, for more than 15 years.
Honors Hall is situated on the core of campus and houses classrooms as well as various academic offices.
The Thomas G. Carpenter Library is a 199,000-square-foot facility featuring 352 public computer workstations and over 850,000 volumes of books, journals, periodicals and media, as well as online access to thousands of journals, ebooks and research databases. In addition to group study rooms and laptops which are available for checkout to currently enrolled students, the Library provides services such as individualized instruction, online chat and research assistance. The building was named after Dr. Thomas G. Carpenter, who was the founding president of UNF.
Andrew A. Robinson Jr. Center, Building 14, is named for the first interim president of UNF. The late Dr. Robinson, who served as interim president from 1980 to 1982, was a charter faculty member in the College of Education as well as its dean.
The John E. Mathews, Jr. Computer Science Building was constructed in 1988 to house computer labs and other technical resources of the University. Although the technology has changed, this building still serves as a central location for UNF students seeking to further their knowledge of computing.
Built on the same site as UNF’s previous cafeteria, which served the campus since the late 1970s, the new UNF dining and administration facility – know as The Commons – is a four-story complex dedicated to serving student and faculty needs. The 26,000 square-foot, $13 million facility opened in August 2012. It was constructed to LEED-certified green building standards.
Osprey Clubhouse is a 15,000-square-foot, multipurpose student-centered facility. It includes a 3,000-square-foot, 4-foot-deep pool, a 6,000-square-foot pool deck, a fully operational grill restaurant, game room, laundry facility and a light mail center. There are also three group rooms on the second floor available. It is open to all students and is open 24-hours a day.
