Free Event

UNF Physics department is looking forward to the first Astronomy Night of 2025. Julie Sheffler from University of Wisconsin, Madison, will give a short presentation titled "Seeing Alien Worlds."

When we imagine planets today, we often think of the vibrant images taken by space missions since the 1960s; but for the majority of our study of planets, we did not have the technology to take such images. So, what did planets look like for the ancient Greeks who observed the five classical planets, for William Herschel who discovered Uranus in 1781, or for us today as we discover more planets outside our solar system?

Afterwards there will be a time to view the stars and planets with our powerful telescopes. This event begins at 8:00 p.m. with viewing occurring after the presentation. Watch the weather and dress appropriately. This event is free and open to the public.
