Join Cayle Pearson, Assistant Curator of Herps and Others at Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens, as he talks striped newt (Notophthalmus perstriatus) conservation. Cayle, has worked in captive animal management for over 10 years. With a passion for herpetofauna, Cayle has been invovled in a number of conservation efforts aiming to rebound in-need lizard and amphibian populations. For this talk, Cayle will discuss the zoo's striped newt breeding program, a long-term local collaboration (as striped newts are only found in Florida and Georgia) with the Coastal Plains Insititute and other institutions. This program aims not only reestablish striped newt populations in the Apalachicola National Forest but provide hands-on opportunities for local students to actively participate in conservation research and action.
